I received my first delivery of Akrapovic S-Y2SO11-AHCSS slip-on exhaust systems for the 2015 Yamaha R3 yesterday (it’s the same as the R25 exhaust), but I ran out of time to post about them, so here it is… Packaging is simple and the exhaust is marvelous! I would expect nothing less from Akrapovic. The welds and seams are beautiful. It features a stainless steel pipe with the most minimal “muffler” ever, and a slick titanium outer sleeve and mounting tab. It’s basically just a straight pipe as you can see looking down it. It truly looks just like the Yamaha M1 exhaust, I couldn’t be happier! 🙂
The other thing that makes me very happy, is the inclusion of a big carbon reducer bushing to mate it to the stock headers…why does this make me happy you may ask?? Because it means that Akrapovic is planning to release a separate header that will mate up with this already oversized slip-on, YAY!!! (I confirmed this with my Akrapovic rep) No reason to wait for the full system, now we can just get this awesome looking and sounding slip-on, and replace the stock headers later as the new headers and fuel management systems becomes available. Awesome. Way to go Akra.
As for the numbers, Akrapovic’s website claims 6.2 lbs for the stock exhaust, and 2.0 lbs for this slip-on. On my scale, I see 2 lbs .4 oz with the bag of hardware, and without the reducer sleeve, BAM!!! 1 lb 15.4 oz. Under 2 lbs, not bad.
You can check out the sound difference between the stock Yamaha R25 and with this Akrapovic Slip-on exhaust here on Akrapovic’s website. It has a wonderful growl, I can’t wait to actually have a bike here to install it on, lol.
Where can I buy one though ? My local dealer and parts guy can’t get there hands on one. I looked every where online. Everythings out of the country.
I will have these in stock around the end of June. I sent you an email.
J when are you going to get more of these puppies in ?
Akrapovic hasn’t been delivering very many of these. I have 1 more coming in a week or 2 that isn’t spoken for, after that it will be September.
Do you need a tune with the Akrapovic S-Y2SO11-AHCSS slip-on?
Since the slip on is basically a straight pipe, and the cat is providing back pressure. Is it ok to just run the bike with no muffler without a tune? Lightest option and it probably sounds the same as the slip on.
You do not need a tune with just a slipon. As you said, the slipon is basically a straight pipe and all the restriction happens in the catalytic converter/silencer that is under the bike. You can remove the slipon completely and it has little effect on performance or sound.
Have a 2016 r25 . What is available
All exhaust systems for the R3 will also fit the R25.
